I started piano studies at age 10, teaching myself for around 3 years and reaching grade 8 in 2 years, after which I had private tuition locally. I later spent 4 years at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester studying with Sulamita Aronovsky and later gained performance diplomas from the Royal College, London, Guildhall School, London and Trinity College, London.
I’ve had wide experience in public performance including concertos, accompanying singers and instrumentalists, and solo piano recitals. My repertoire includes around 17 piano concertos including Rachmaninov 1,2 and 3, Beethoven 3 and 5 and both Brahms concertos. Also about 40 solo works including both Rachmaninov Sonatas, Beethoven Hammerclavier sonata and much of Chopin’s output. I also recorded an album of composer Colin Bayliss’ piano works which was available in music shops like HMV and Forsythes. You can hear some of the tracks in the My Performances page.
Newspaper reviews have always been excellent, commenting on musicality and high levels of virtuosity.
In teaching I’ve always geared the method to the musical tastes and strengths of the pupil, so no two students’ lessons will resemble each other, so if one of them is into Mozart and another ragtime, jazz or Ed Sheeran that’s fine.I’ll even arrange, adapt or simplify the music to accommodate them, and I’ll always push them to the edge of their ability to keep them challenged and hence they will always make faster progress than when playing piece after piece at the same level.
